Continuous process to identify, select, prioritise and manage the components of a portfolio to secure:
- Components alignment with the strategic goals
- Optimisation of portfolio value
- Efficient allocation of resources
To manage the Portfolio you need to take into account
- Company Strategy
- Analysis of your surroundings
- Idea Management
- Long term plan
=> The result is a plan for the total Project Portfolio
To develop the projects you need to work and balance the total Project Portfolio. It is needed to take into account e.g. resources, other projects in the pipeline, overall targets etc.
The important question is will the company make money in the long run
- The total Portfolio is the sum of each project at a certain point in time (e.g.
cost resorses...)
- Usally you have a budget restraint on what you invest in projects
developing new solutions
- In managing the Portfolio it is needed to take into account all ongoing
projects to know if there are resources to start the project and how fast this
project can be delivered
- Will the company make money in the long run
