Waterfall Project Quality

How is Quality worked into the Watherfall Project
-  Invest in Quality assurance in a reasonable way
-  Plan for Quality
-  Start your project with focus and commitment to Quality
-  Perform suitable Calculations and Tests
-  Safeguard the time for testing
-  Agree on quality level with Steering group/Sponsor

Plan for Quality
-  Clarify Roles and Responsibilities for Quality leading
-  Clarify tools and techniques to be used in the project
-  What kind of testing environment is required (physical and program test
    environments)
-  When will the team measure Quality and how
-  What will be inspected and tested
-  In what way will defects be tracked and reported
-  How will the deliveries be validated
-  Present a wordlist of Quality Assurance words

In a waterfall project, quality is planned and controlled at each sequential phase:
-  Requirements: Quality expectations and acceptance criteria are clearly
    defined.
-  Design: The proposed solution is reviewed against the requirements and
    relevant standards.
-  Development: The team follows documented processes, technical
    specifications, and quality standards.
-  Testing: The completed product is tested to identify defects and confirm that it
    meets the requirements.
-  Approval: The customer or project owner reviews and formally accepts the
  result.
-  Maintenance: Problems discovered after delivery are corrected and
    documented.

Quality Assurance plan
-  In some companies you have a checklist describing what needs to be reported
at a certain stage of the project, to support future activities with lessons
    learned from previous projects
-   Make sure that this list is updated regularly
-   Make sure that knowledge from old projects is taken into acount e.g. by
meeting with previous Project Leaders (useful even if the list exists)

Steering group and/or sponsor
-  The Steering group and/or sponsor is there to support the project
-  To pass a predefined checkpoint (decision between the Project and the
    Steering group/Sponsor)
-  Everything is fulfilled up to the checkpoint – if not fulfilled there needs to be a
time plan on how the Project can catch up (does the project need extra
resources or help in any other way from the steering group?)
-  What needs to be fullfilled up to the next checkpoint? (based on the process
description and the delayed activities from this checkpoint).

If decisions need to be taken that are not beneficial to your home organisation, the project is priority one

Manuverability

In an organisational context, maneuverability refers to the ability of a company or institution to quickly adapt to changes, challenges and opportunities in its environment

This concept is vital for organisations operating in fast-paced or unpredictable industries, where they need strategic shift or adjustment, to innovate and re-align resources effectively to stay competitive.

Here’s a breakdown of key elements contributing to organisational maneuverability:
1.  Structural Agility
2.  Decision-Making Speed
3.   Innovation and Learning Culture
4.  Responsive Strategy and Vision
5.   Effective Communication Channels

An example of how this is done is shown.

Why Maneuverability Matters:
-  In industries with high uncertainty, such as technology, healthcare and finance,
    maneuverability is key for survival.
-  Organisations that can strategically shift or adjust and realign resources quickly
are better positioned to capitalise on new trends, protect against risks and
  avoid potential downturns.
-  Maneuverability allows organisations to transform challenges into competitive
advantages by responding faster than competitors, innovating continuously and
  maintaining alignment with market conditions.

Process Quality

Process Quality refers to the capability of a process to consistently produce output that meets specifications. It involves monitoring, measuring, and improving processes to ensure they deliver value with minimal variation and waste.

This concept is essential in quality management systems like Total Quality Management (TQM) or Six Sigma, where the focus is on process improvement to ensure product and service quality. Key aspects include:
-  Consistency in outcomes
-  Efficiency in resource use
-  Compliance with standards
-  Continuous improvement

The processes need to be continuously improved
-  If they are not updated they become irrelevant with time, meaning that the
actual job is done in different ways than the process describes
-  Or the written process prevents improvements to be performed

How to work with Process Quality
1.  Define What "Quality" Means for the Process
2.  Map the Process
3.  Set Quality Standards and KPIs
4.  Monitor and Measure
5.  Analyse and Improve
6.  Document and Standardise
7.  Engage People

There needs to be focus on how the processes work together
-  Usually you have different people that are responsible for the  different
    processes
-  In that case special focus needs to be taken to make the processes work well
together (each responsible for a process will optimise that one process)

-  Hence there needs to be someone responsible for how they work together

Product Quality

What is Product Quality ?
- The ability of the product to satisfy intended need
- Maximal effectiveness and usability
- Created products with good material and design
- Ensured production environment that suits the product
- The product given a reasonable price – good value for money
- Understanding the customer and fullfilling all their needs and
   wishes
- Frequent product updates according to feedback from the
   customer
- Introducing the product to the market timely (when the market
   is ready to receive it)
- Product with an environmental advantage

How to Work with Product Quality
1. Define requirements and Quality Standards
2. Review the design before development begins
3. Design for Quality
4. Use Quality Inputs
5. Follow agreed processes and technical standards
6. Test and Inspect
7. Monitor & Measure
8. Gather Customer and stakholder Feedback
9. Continuously Improve the product and our working methods
10. Train and Empower Teams

Cost for Quality can be devided into three groups:
1. Cost for making evaluation
2. Cost for preventive actions
3. Cost for failures
Cost for bad reputation

What is the Quality of this product?
1. Check if the product is as it should be (according to
    drawing/specification)
2. Verify that the product can be used as intended
3. What is the feedback from the customers
4. Check the product’s availability
5. Check the reliability of the product
6. Analyse the safety for customers and production security
7. Analyse the product efficiency

To increase the Quality means
1. Improved productivity in the system
2. Reduced cost for products/services
3. Improved image of the organisation and its products
4. Commitment from customer/clients
5. Proper maintenance of
    the equipment/facility
6. Increased commitment from employees on different levels in the
    organisation

Safty

Everyone needs to feel safe (physical, emotional or psychological safety).

By leveraging data analysis, providing relevant information and facilitating communication, a Safe Workplace can be created and maintained

Safty (physical working environment)
, you need to work with the following components:

1.   Risk Assessment
2.   Safety Training
3.   Safety Equipment
4.   Safety Policies and Procedures
5.   Safety Culture
6.   Continuous Improvement
7.   Leadership Commitment

Safty Emotional or psychological

1.  Trust
2.  Open Communication
3.  Active Listening
4.  Respect
5.  Empathy
6.  Conflict Resolution
7.  Clear Expectations
8.  Feedback and Recognition
9.  Boundaries

Safety (Emotional or psychological safety messure)
How do you djudge Emotional or psychological safety ?
Sense of Coherence (SOC). It was developed by sociologist Aaron Antonovsky (1923-1994) was an American-Israeli sociologist who developed the salutogenic theory, which focuses on what helps people stay healthy rather than what causes illness. a questionear  and describes how people cope with stress and challenges.
It has three components:
1.  Comprehensibility
2.  Manageability.
3.  Meaningfulness.

A high Sense of Coherence (SOC) score means that a person generally experiences life as:
-  Comprehensible - situations feel understandable and reasonably predictable.
-  Manageable - they believe they have the resources, abilities, and support to
    cope with challenges.
-  Meaningful - they feel that life's demands are worth engaging with.

A high value is generally associated with better resilience and an improved ability to manage stress. It does not mean that the person never experiences difficulties, but that they are more likely to understand, handle, and find meaning in them.

In Sweden we talk of the term KSAM (meaning the same thing)
But this way of locking at the same thing might spred som light into the matter
K - Knowledge
S - Skills
A - Attitudes
M – Motivation

It means that a person feels they have sufficient resources, support, and abilities to cope with life's demands and challenges.
